Open source code is a great idea. It has produced great software, such as Linux. As a commercial software developer, I must be careful not to violate open source code licenses. If I were to use any of the Audacity source code, I might be obligated to publish some of my source code. I'm not sure how much of my source code I would need to publish to meet the open source code license agreement. So, I'm careful to not download and look at open source code, until I know exactly what my obligations are if I were to use the open source code in the MidiNotate commercial product.
